Ben Davis girls celebrate the back to back state title Ben Davis 69 Fort Wayne Snyder 45Ben Davis had enough after a close first half with Fort Wayne Snyder. The Lady Giant led by two points at intermission. Ben Davis outscored the Lady Panthers 26-9 in the third stanza largly in part to the eleven steals from Allen and Ely in that set. Ashley Allen led with nine steals in the game and Ely intercepted four passes. As a team Ben Davis set a state finals record with a whopping 20 steals. Fort Wayne Snyder committed 30 turnovers as a team which deflated their chances of hanging around with the talented Lady Giants.Ashley Allen led the victorious team with 20 points on a 9 of 19 shooting night. Allen also contributed with 4 boards and 6 assists. Shyra Ely totaled 19 points for the evening. She shot 7 of 10 from the charity stripe and was 6 of 14 from the floor. Ely also has 5 rebounds to her credit and dished out 3 assists. 5-10 freshman Janese Banks scored 12 points on a 4 of 9 shooting effort and made 4 out of 5 free throws. Banks contributed with 2 boards and three steals. 6-3 senior Kristin Van Vailin led everyone on the boards with 8 rebounds. Van Vailin also had 2 assists and a steal. Coach Stan Benge had high praise for Van Vailin in the post game news conference and has hope that a college will pick her up. He reported that she is eagerly interested in participating with a college team. No Snyder athlete broke into double figures, but four players share team high scoring honors. Erin Heffner, Sasmine Fullove Suzanne Hayden and Amy Hayden each led with 7 points. Lydia Harris also contributed with 6 points and team high 6 assists. 5-11 Snyder senior Erin Heffner led with 6 rebounds. Ashlee Arthur (Number 24) applies tight defence on Triton's Brandie Ganshorn. Triton 55 White River Valley 38Never overlook the value of a good start in a state finals game. When all was said and done the Triton Lady Trojans executed early and it made all the difference. Did it EVER make a difference. Triton hit 10 of 17 first period shots which is good for 58.8 percent. The Lady Trojans began the game on a 16-0 run and ended the first stop leading 20-3. The Lady Wolverines made only 1 of their first 12 shots from the field. The lone WRV goal was scored by Ashlee Arthur on a layup with 1:33 left. Triton's Amber Feldman snared 4 of her game high 5 steals in the first period which led to six of her final 10 points.While Triton had the advantage in overall quickness, it was the strength and board play of 5-11 Elizabeth Salyer who controled the game for the Lady Trojans. Salyor fought hard against her taller oppontents and snared 15 rebounds. Ten of her boards came from the defensive end of the floor. As a team, Triton outrebounded White River Valley 40 to 19. Sayler hit 6 of her 12 shots and finished with 13 points. Amber Feldman nailed 5 of 7 shots to score 10 points and 5-7 Ashli Senff also contributed with 10. Despite the early onslaught, White River Valley fought back and showed some spunk. The Lady Wolverines trailed by 9 points early in the fourth quarter. Ashlee Arthur scored a game high 14 points. The 5-6 senior also contributed with 5 boards and 1 assist. 5-9 standout Rachael Beach was held to 5 points but lead her team with 6 rebounds. Plymouth's Lindsay Houin prepared to go up strong on her shot. Indianapolis Cathedral 54 Plymouth 39The Cathedral Fighting Irish wanted a fast start against Plymouth and the request was answered via Asjah Zinnerman's 3 of 5 first quarter shooting. Zinnerman would score 8 of her 10 point in the pivital first set. Cathedral shot 60 percent from the perimeter in the first period and led 13 to 3 over the Lady Pilgrims. The first quarter stats are nearly identical all across the board except for shooting percentages. Cathedral shot a mere 29.4 percent after hitting 5 of 17 shots from the field, but Plymouth shot a frigid 7.7 percent after hitting only 1 of 13. Leslie Blackburn scored Plymouth's only first quarter goal on a 15 foot jumper to make the score 3-2 in Cathedrals favor.Cachedral would finish the game with three players in double figures. Jessica Wright led all scorers with 16 points. The 6-0 Junior would also snare 8 boards, 3 steals and an assist for the evening. 5-8 Sharika Webb hit 4 of 9 her shots from the floor and totaled 12 points. The junior guard also pulled down 8 boards with 4 steals and an assist. Senior Asjah Zinnerman added 10 points with 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. Ellen Rahme had to fight through foul problems but managed to lead the team with 10 rebounds, 9 points and 2 assists. Plymouth 6-0 senior Brandy Swihart totaled 14 points and led everyone with a 14 rebounding effort. Eight of her rebounds came from the offensive end of the floor. Swihart also has an assist and a steal to her credit. Teammate Lindsay Houin totaled 6 points, 6 rebounds and a steal in the Plymouth effort. The depth of the Luers squad would overcome any challenge in the second half to become 2001 2A State Champions. The Lady Knight shot 44.7 percent for the game and ended the first quarter hitting 7 of 13 shots (53.8 %).Senior Rachael King led all participants with 20 points on an 8 of 15 shooting night. King was a perfenct 2 of 2 from the charity stripe. The 5-8 guard also led the team with 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Megan Dossen came up big for Luers and hit 8 of 13 shots which is good for 23 points. She made 7 of 8 shots from the free throw line. Tracie Hancock was the only shenandoah athlete to reach double figures. Hancock was held to 10 points and contributed with 3 turnovers 1 assist and 2 steals. 6-0 Teran Warned led the Lady Raiders with 9 boards and 5 points.
